Sony Pictures Entertainment is an American film production and distribution company, being a subsidiary of Sony Corporation.

This company produced together with Rovio Entertainment Corporation Angry Birds: The Movie and will also produce The Angry Birds Movie 2.

On November 8, 1989, the Japanese conglomerate Sony acquired the television and film production company Columbia Pictures Entertainment, Inc. (an American television and film production company that owned Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, and other companies) from The Coca-Cola. Company for $ 3,400,000,000. Sony also acquired the Guber-Peters Entertainment Company (formerly Barris Industries, Inc.) for $ 20,000,000 when Sony hired Peter Gubery Jon Peters to head CPE, and the company's president was Norio Ohga, who then served as Sony's president. The company was renamed Sony Pictures Entertainment on August 7, 1991.

Sony has then created many other units for the production and distribution of films, such as in the creation of Sony Pictures Classics for art essays, the formation of Columbia TriStar Pictures (also known as the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group) through the merger of Columbia Pictures and TriStar Pictures in 1998, and the revitalization of Screen Gems, a former Columbia division for television; and increased its growth on April 8, 2005, when a consortium led by Sony and its equity partners acquired Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, a legendary Hollywood studio, in a deal worth nearly $ 5,000,000,000.
